Austin’s continual growth and expansion delivers an exciting opportunity for a General Manager, Asia.

Headquartered in the tropical location of Batam, Indonesia off the coast of Singapore, we invite applications from an experienced Business Leader preferably with an engineering / manufacturing / operations background.

Being fully accountable for our Asian Business Unit, which is a highly integrated hub for our Global businesses, the General Manager has strategic and day to day accountability for the BU Profit & Loss (P&L) from top (Revenue) to bottom (Profit).

Overall, a tremendous opportunity in a Global Mining sector business, to lead our low cost / high quality manufacturing hub to even greater levels of growth through our home market and expansion strategy.

Your role

The General Manager (GM) and Director is accountable to the COO for the entire performance of Austin business activities in Asia and Africa through effective leadership of the relevant Business Unit (BU) Leadership team of Managers and Department Heads.

The GM has strategic and day to day accountability for the BU Profit & Loss (P&L) from top (Revenue) to bottom (Profit) i.e.

  • Government & Client Relations
  • Market & Business Growth Strategy
  • Business Development and Sales
  • Engineering (design / nesting)
  • Operations (manufacturing, safety, quality etc.)
  • Supply Chain including procurement, logistics and warehousing
  • HR, Finance, Estimating, Security, Maintenance etc.

The role will actively contribute and collaborate with the COO and other Global BU GM’s in strategic planning, product & market development, organisational optimisation etc.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & LICENCES
SKILLS & EXPERTISE
  • Extensive experience managing and developing teams located in both, local and remote offices, and facilities. Including international experience / teams;
  • Experience managing financial systems, budgeting, costs, profit and loss, forecasting, cash / working capital management and financial reports;
  • Extensive experience managing manufacturing operations (fabrication and assembly production environments);
  • Experience in continual business optimisation / improvement to reduce costs, improve safety, quality and delivery reliability with the aim of being / maintaining industry leadership;
  • Experience in expanding business capability (facility investment etc.):
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate and assist others by sharing knowledge and experience;
  • Previous exposure to commercial systems, sales and sales forecast pipelines, client relationships and Board of Director engagement.
