At Caterpillar’s Indonesia Batam, we manufacture Hydraulic Shovels products used in building the infrastructure and mining to move materials that makes a better world.
Caterpillar’s Manufacturing Engineer position works both independently and as part of a team to maintain and improve processes and systems used in product manufacturing. You will provide expertise in specific areas of the manufacturing process to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective manufacture of product.
As Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer, you will apply engineering principles and practices towards improving manufacturing processes. You may be directly involved in the development and production process or providing advice and recommendations when needed.
Experience shall consist of the design, application or operation of welding facilities that fabricate welded products. Fabricated products may be covered by international, customer, or internal standards or specifications.
As the Fabrication Manufacturing Engineer, you will:
Read, understand, and relate the engineering drawings to fabrication sequence and process.
Periodically review Design Drawings and Bill of Materials and highlight deviations and changes faced in fabrication of products.
Develop fabrication working instructions, covering lifting practice, ergonomics, workmanship standards and process documents, and ensure they are followed.
Performs research, design, and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, jig/fixtures required, and production equipment.
Estimate fabrication times, manning requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
Assigning tasks to technicians, monitor teams in order to investigate failures, resolve technical issues and ensure the integrity of design.
Identify ways to reduce production costs through recommendations like new process design, equipment justification to improve performance.
Fully participate as required in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and PFMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) activities where fabrication operations are required.
Propose and lead Green Belt fabrication improvement project through Six Sigma methodology.
Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to quality, cost reduction, safety, ergonomics, CPS transformation etc., in performing assigned duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must bring:
Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering related – Mechanical Engineer (preferred).
Proficient level English.
Heavy industries or equipment manufacture experience required.
Minimum 4 years of experience in steel fabrication/ manufacturing related to welding.
Proficiently in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
In depth knowledge and experience in PFMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), Control Plan, IPV (In-Process Validation) and standard work.
Familiar with OHSAS standards related to heavy industry.
Experience or familiar with heavy lifting process/procedure.
Top candidates will also bring:
Having experiences in improvement projects with Six Sigma or other methodology is a plus.
Having experience working in company with the similar products or fabrication of Large steel structures.
Proficient in computer assisted design (CAD) and 3D Drawing software, Creo is preferred.
