Summary:The work schedule for this position is:
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time or 4 weeks of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
The incumbent often travels with the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and/or Consul General (CG) to provide support at media events outside Surabaya, sometimes to distant eastern Indonesia locations for days at a time. May also travel independently, or with other U.S. Mission Indonesia personnel for media and event support.
Media reaction and opportunities are considered in almost all aspects of public diplomacy (PD) work, and the Information Assistant leverages these opportunities for maximum impact. S/he works directly with media outlets to get coverage of consulate activities and programs, organizes press conferences, and places press releases. S/he maintains working-level contacts in Indonesian media and engages in content development within the media community. S/he provides strategic counsel on media trends, provides major input and advice for content used in traditional and social media campaigns, and assists Consul General (CG) and other officers in preparing and translating public remarks. S/he also monitors local media and prepares daily press briefings for CG and section chiefs. S/he works closely with the Information section in the U.S. Embassy Jakarta to coordinate press releases and provides local stories for inclusion in Jakarta-produced press summaries. S/he produces material to promote and disseminate Consulate activities and information, including but not limited to, producing and shooting videos, designing graphics, and taking photographs. S/he works on social media for the U.S. Consulate, producing, developing, and disseminating content to engage with audiences. The incumbent travels with Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and CG to provide support at media events outside Surabaya. S/he must be able to work independently to organize work, est priorities, and meet deadlines.
EXPERIENCE: Four years experience in a related field that includes but not limited to cultural, public relations, advertising, video production, journalism, social media, graphic design, or in the media field is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: A thorough knowledge of Indonesia's media, political, economic, social, religious, and education environment. General familiarity with key mass media, government, military, cultural, business, and labor leaders required. Knowledge of journalistic and public relations techniques sufficient to help meet Consulate's public diplomacy goals. General knowledge of U.S. Political and social processes, and of foreign policy issues relating to U.S. - Indonesia bilateral relations.

Evaluations:LANGUAGE: Fluency speaking/reading/writing in English and Indonesian are required. This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Outgoing and at ease with members of the press, government, and general public. High degree of initiative and independence, and the desire to establish and maintain contacts in coordination with other consulate sections. Ability to translate quickly and interpret accurately. Sound intellectual judgment, flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and unforeseen circumstances. Ability to work with a variety of Americans and other foreigners. Social media and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Outlook, Internet).
