Job Description

Program Overview WRI’s air quality program is a global initiative that seeks to identify, build awareness of, and eliminate the root causes of air pollution that damages climate, human, and ecosystem health. The program has three main areas of work: (i) engagement with city stakeholders to use participatory science to diagnose and develop targeted, cost-effective clean air solutions to protect human health and climate, (ii) working with the science community to convert innovative methods into tools and products that communities and policymakers can use to better manage their impact on the atmosphere, and (iii) working with national governments and business networks to design and implement broader regional-to-global air quality governance. It is a part of the WRI Ross Center on Sustainable Cities, with additional oversight from the Data Lab and engagement with Climate, Governance, Energy, and other programs at WRI. The team is global, with senior experts distributed across WRI’s network of international offices
WRI Indonesia air quality program is growing along with the new USAID-funded program called “Clean Air Catalyst”, which will be implemented by a global consortium that WRI is leading with EDF and other partners. The consortium includes six additional partners: Clean Air Toolbox for Cities (Columbia University), Climate and Clean Air Coalition, Internews Network, MAP-AQ, OpenAQ, and Vital Strategies. The program will work in three pilot regions with WRI international offices and local partners to test and refine a three-part data to action methodology for improving air quality and delivering climate co-benefits. The Air Quality Communications & Social Media Specialist will support the CAC Jakarta office by implementing communications strategies, managing multiple communications channels (such as website, blog, publications, media relations, and events). The Air Quality Communications & Social Media Specialist will proactively collaborate with the program team on related work. The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication skills, sharp analytical thinking, and be able to demonstrate their ability to effectively engage with various national, sub-national, and international stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities
  • Implement communications strategies pertaining to the Air Quality initiative which is closely related to urban issues which include sustainable cities, energy, health, climate, and gender sectors. The implementation of communication strategies comprises of but is not limited to communications materials development, events management, media engagement, video development, writing, and social media engagement.
  • Develop and implement creative campaigns to increase awareness and improve stakeholders’ participation towards Clean Air Catalyst Initiative.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Communications Coordinator for Digital Media and Content DevelopmentProgram Managers, and WRI Indonesia’s Communications Team to support and manage communications strategies for reports, events, conferences, and news opportunities including media content
  • Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, op-eds, website content, and more
  • Engage with third-party vendors and consultants

Qualifications
  • Ideal candidate will have bachelor or master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or other relevant fields;
  • Professional experience of min. 3 years in communications;
  • International experience or prior work in a global organization preferred;
  • Experience in working with a content management system (CMS) preferred;
  • Experience in working with reporters or members of the media (and established media contacts) preferred;
  • Interest and experience in forestry, energy, or other natural resources-related issues in Indonesia preferred;
  • Experience and proven ability to communicate effectively with Indonesian government officials;
  • Articulate, versatile, highly skilled writer with professional writing experience (professional clips or writing samples preferred);
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced office environment, both independently and as part of a global team;
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills, including the ability to encourage collaboration with other programs, international offices, and partners;
  • Understanding of social media and how to use it to impact audiences;
  • Ability to think creatively and collaboratively about all elements of communications work;
  • Visual skills, such as photography, graphic design, and Adobe Photoshop are desirable;
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products;
  • Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong emphasis on written and spoken communications (additional language skills are welcome);
  • Legally able to work in Indonesia.

Deliverables
Monthly consolidated report on delivery, achievement, and lessons learned. Other deliverables include but not limited to:
  • Project communications strategies development and implementation
  • Activation activities implementation and analysis report of each activity.
  • Communications materials development
  • Contribute in the development of project’s product knowledge and reporting activities, including monthly report, quarterly report and annual report particularly on communication aspect
  • Monthly report on social media channels strategy and performance

Durations 3 (three) months of initial contract with possibility of extension up to 1 (one) year subject to individual performance review.
Terms of Payment
Daily-rate based consultant with maximum 18 (eighteen) working days per month.
Must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position.

Final candidates might be required to take a writing test and to produce two writing samples when needed.

Consultant rate
: Consultant rate is commensurate with experience and skills.
