Job Description

Providing students with positive and appropriate learning experiences

Faculty must demonstrate commitment to professional inquiry and engage in collective processes of:

Identifying essential elements of curriculum and building common units of instruction

Personalizing instruction, knowing, and engaging each learner, using and planning appropriate interventions

Providing timely and precise feedback using common formative and summative assessments to provide both meaningful student achievement data to inform instructional practice and an assessment policy that encourages success

Creating a safe learning environment

Planning learning sequences that enable students to meet standards and benchmarks of courses National Arts Core Standards (NCAS) as well as promoting growth in JIS Learning Dispositions (Resilience, Resourcefulness, Relating and Reflectiveness)

Collaboratively supporting students and executing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) as appropriate for students in their charge

Working actively with Learning Support Teachers with common students

Building positive interpersonal relationships

Promoting positive interactions among students who have differing cultural, linguistic, and national backgrounds

Fostering a sense of identity and pride in the school among students, parents, and colleagues

Support the Creative Arts department shows, performances, exhibitions, and other activities

Maintaining an open attitude toward new ideas and accepting of others whose experiences, opinions and beliefs may differ

Collaborating with grade-level teams, School Wide teams, and the High School Student Support Teams

Seeking ongoing professional growth

Continuing to acquire new learning and reflecting new learning and professional practice

Engaging in opportunities for in-service and workshop offerings

Sharing professional knowledge with colleagues

Working closely with Department Heads, Curriculum Leaders, and specialist teachers to plan cooperatively, develop curriculum and maintain a positive, professional school climate

Setting goals for professional development, taking advantage of professional development opportunities, and demonstrating current best practice in the field of education

Communicating effectively

Providing opportunities for parent involvement in school programs, activities or the classroom

Providing access to curriculum documents and unit plans

Communicating concerns for students who may be experiencing social, emotional or academic difficulties to the Student Support Team

Communicating effectively with students and parents

Communicating curriculum expectations clearly and on a regular basis

Able and willing to work in an asynchronous or synchronous online platform if necessary

Embrace the JIS Learning Dispositions of Resilience, Resourcefulness, Relating, and Reflectiveness

Performing other related duties and assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the High School Principal and/or Creative Arts Department Head
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts with a focus on digital art software, digital photography, and digital film preferred

Teaching credential and experience in teaching in High School Creative Arts/Digital Arts preferred

Experience in a school with a well-defined High School philosophy – International setting preferred

Demonstrated organizational ability, effective communicative skills, and interpersonal skills

Documented working knowledge of the IB Visual Arts program and/or a working knowledge of the AP program is an advantage

Experience with, and commitment to, a Professional Learning Community (PLC) model

Advocate for differentiated instruction and EAL in the mainstream

Demonstrated ability to integrate technology within lessons in response to student learning needs

Demonstrated background in associating with students outside of the classroom environment - this could include experiences in drama, clubs, National Arts Honor Society, or other non-academic endeavors

A clear commitment to Child Safeguarding, safety, service learning and environmental stewardship
