As the Remote Sensing & Geomatics Unit Leader with PTHI, your responsibility will be to provide high quality technical and project management skills to support our environmental applications working with a diverse team of national and international staff. You will work with national and international clients in Bahasa Indonesia and English languages encompassing a range of national and international standards. In addition, your role will support business development, along our existing business lines, and pursue new lines of work that align with our company vision and mission. Overall, you should demonstrate the desire to grow the capability of our company to enable our clients to more effectively implement their work.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that high quality and timely GIS and remote sensing technical services are available to support PTHI’s natural resources and planning, infrastructure and extractives, and marine business units.
  • Project management for remote sensing and geomatics projects.
  • Manage resources in the business unit, including: develop and update resource planning for the business unit, plan for recruitment of staff and sub-contractors, conduct performance assessments, and coordinate with Human Resources to support PTHI Policies and Standards.
  • Conduct business development for geomatics projects, identify and engage with potential clients, and identify and pursue market opportunities.

Education and Experience:
Education and/or Experience:

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Forestry, Engineering, Geography, GIS or equivalent.
  • A minimum of six years relevant professional experience developing and implementing remote sensing and geomatics solutions (willing to consider differing combinations of education/experience).

Core Competencies:

  • Fundamental understanding of remote sensing science.
  • Fundamental understanding of GIS and experience with either QGIS or ArcMap.
  • Experience with a wide variety of remote sensing data sets (e.g., Very High Resolution, LiDAR, Sentinel-2, and Landsat) and sourcing the most appropriate datasets to address client needs.
  • Knowledge of classification methods (e.g. Random Forest).
  • Experienced in managing small to medium sized technical projects.
  • Experienced in technical report and proposal writing.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead and mentor new and existing staff.

Optional Requirements:

  • Experience working with Google Earth Engine or SEPAL and automating remote sensing analysis using Javascript or Python.
  • Knowledge of mangrove mapping and/or remote sensing and geomatics analysis for carbon project development and monitoring.
  • Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and teamwork; and an ability/interest to work in the field, occasionally in remote locations.
